My Thoughts on the First Day of 2013
I loved Kathleen’s post yesterday. I love that she put her goals and dreams on virtual paper. I love that she is brave. But what I love most of all is that she shares it with us.
I am the person she talks about in her post. The one that is afraid “someone will think them silly or stupid, and do not act because of it.” I am likely to be swayed by the naysayers and “turn the precious dream over to those with limited vision and faith.”
But I am also the woman who is willing to be honest about it and commit to change. Back in October when we were writing and sharing our “I Am” statements, I identified that what I needed was courage. I have approached everyday since with the bravest heart I can muster. That’s why I think this part of Kathleen’s post resonated so strongly with me:
If 2013 can bring you anything, let it bring you courage. Courage to listen to your heart, follow your dream and fulfill your destiny.
And that is my hope for you, for all of us- that we have a most courageous year. To that end, here are some things we can do to assure that we meet your important goals:
Break it down- resolution should be broken down into easy and measurable steps. Don’t just promise to change your career, determine what steps you’ll need to take to do it.
Believe- trust that real change is possible. Think of those less fortunate who have come out of traumatic experiences like tsunamis, hurricanes, and addiction and successfully transformed their lives. If they can do it, you can too!
Focus- give attention to new behaviors and thought patterns. New neural pathways in your brain must be created to change ingrained habits. Focusing on them hastens their development!
I loved reading the comments yesterday as you shared your resolutions! It gives me strength and I would love it if you continued to converse. Happiest of New Years to you and your families! I am thankful that you are always here to share and listen.
Love,
Becky
