The Jokes On Me?

inside jokeInside jokes have been a hot topic of conversation in and around my life this week.  I myself have a love-hate relationship with them.  I love them when I’m in the know, feeling camaraderie and connection with my partner in crime.  When I’m on the outside, well that’s a whole different story.  It’s a little cold out there!

It turns out there’s a scientific reason why these inside jokes evoke strong feelings- they are one of the important building blocks of intimate relationships.

Intimacy is defined as “a close, familiar, and usually affectionate or loving personal relationship with another person or group.”  The foundation of such a relationship is built on shared experiences, conversations, mutual memories, and inside jokes.

So think about the people you’re closest to.  Do you share inside jokes that make you feel special?  Do inside jokes offend you?  Please share your thoughts!
